Short description: Subject dedicated to the problems of using lichens in assessment the quality of the natural environment. Additionally, the subject includes the basic issues concerning the biology of lichens as well as morphology, anatomy and chemistry of the thallus.
Full description: Overview of the history of research on the lichens, as well as the morphology, anatomy and physiology of their thallus. Characteristics of Polish lichen biota; inhabited substrates and plant communities. The importance of lichens in nature, their threats and ways of protection. Review of the methods using lichens as a bioindicatores for assessment of natural environment. A systematic review of the selected groups of lichens. Classic and chemotaxonomic methods of identifying of taxa.
